Description

This museum displays the conquest of Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, by the forces of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror on May 29, 1453. The museum is located near the point where the Ottomans breached its walls. Its main exhibit is a 360-degree "panorama" (also known as a cyclorama) of the battlefield at the time the walls were breached, giving the visitor the impression of standing in the middle of the battle. The painting is drawn and displayed in such a way that the visitor appears to be in the center of a huge space and not in a circle with a diameter of only 38 metres. Sound effects add to the illusion - there is the sound of gunfire, soldiers screaming, and a military band playing to motivate the troops. Practical information The museum is located at Topkapi Station on tram lines T1 and T4. This is because the image dimensions do not contain references to introduce the concept, such as the start and end points. While the museum is in an enclosed space, the visitor experiences the three-dimensional outer space again. The museum is located opposite the walls of Topkapı-Edirnekapı, where the dam passes. In the vicinity of the museum you can see the walls of Topkapi and the walls of Silivrikapi in Constantinople, the first Turkish soldiers.
