Description

Nusretiye Mosque (in Turkish: Nusretiye Camii) is located on the Bosphorus shore in the Tophane district.

It is also called Tophane Mosque (Tophane). This mosque is one of the most richly decorated among all mosques in Istanbul.

In fact, the construction of Nusretiye Mosque was completed in 1826 and is an excellent example of blending Baroque and Empire styles.

History of the construction of Nusretiye Mosque in Istanbul: Nusretiye Mosque was built on the site of a late 18th-century mosque, and it was then damaged by a fire in 1823 due to the Fıruzağa fire.

This mosque is also called the mosque of the wooden cannon foundry (Tophane-i Amire Arabacılar Kışlası Camii).

The construction of Nusretiye Mosque was initiated by the order of the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II immediately after the Fıruzağa fire in 1823 and completed in 1826.

The mosque was built by the Armenian architect Krikor Balyan, who also constructed the Beylerbeyi Palace, the Eynekavak Palace, and many other buildings in Istanbul in the first half of the 19th century.

Baroque and Empire styles: The mosque represents a successful combination of Baroque and Empire architectural styles with decorated exterior design and large windows welcoming light into its modest walls.

The main hall of the mosque is relatively large and has a square shape, with each side measuring 15 meters.
